Beyoncé’s album “Cowboy Carter” won Album of the Year at the 2025 Grammy Awards on Sunday night. Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us” won Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and three other awards.

Beyoncé, who holds the record for most Grammy awards, had never won the Album of the Year award until Sunday night.

In her speech, Beyoncé said she felt “very full and very honored” and dedicated the award to Linda Martell, a Black country music artist who broke new ground. She said, “I want to dedicate this to Miss Martell, and I hope we keep moving forward and opening doors.”

Beyoncé’s album also won Best Country Album, and her song “II Most Wanted,” performed with Miley Cyrus, won Best Country Duo/Group Performance.

Rapper Kendrick Lamar was the biggest winner of the night, taking home five awards for his song “Not Like Us” in the categories of Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Music Video.

In his speech, Lamar, from Los Angeles, said, “We’re going to dedicate this one to the city,” referring to the city’s recent wildfires.

Who Were the Other Big Winners of the Night?

Chappell Roan won the Best New Artist award. In her speech, she called out record label bosses, saying that if she ever won a Grammy, she would demand that labels, which make millions off artists, offer fair wages and healthcare, especially for new artists. Sabrina Carpenter won two awards: her song “Espresso” took home Best Solo Pop Performance, and her album “Short n’ Sweet” won Best Pop Vocal Album. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With a Smile” won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Charli XCX won three awards: Best Dance/Electronic Album and Best Recording Package for “Brat,” and Best Dance Pop Recording for her song “Von Dutch.”

What Were Some Big Political Statements Made at the Grammys?

Alicia Keys, who won the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, spoke out against attacks on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts. She said, “DEI is not a threat, it’s a gift. The more voices, the more powerful the sound. When harmful forces try to destroy us, we rise like a phoenix.”

Lady Gaga, during her speech, supported transgender people, who have been targeted by some of Trump’s policies. She said, “Trans people are not invisible. They deserve love. The queer community should be supported. Music is love.”

Shakira, who won Best Latin Pop Album, dedicated her award to immigrants in the country, saying, “You are loved, you matter, and I will always fight for you.”
