The overseas property markets that offer good chances for growth and rental income are also great places to live. Here are five markets to invest in for both profit and lifestyle in 2025.

Buying property in another country is mainly about spreading your investments—building wealth in a different market and currency. But you can also buy overseas property for enjoyment and profit.

I’ve been studying global property markets for 40 years and have found a few markets that offer good chances for growth and rental income. These markets are also great places to live full-time and offer exciting lifestyle choices.

Here are five places to buy property overseas for both fun and profit in 2025.

Mazatlán, Mexico

Mazatlán is becoming a popular place for expats. The cost of living here is much lower than in the United States and Canada, including housing. You can find places to live for different budgets and lifestyles.

The city has a beautiful and well-kept colonial area, and many expats choose to live here because of the variety of property prices and styles. There are also good deals along the 10-mile long waterfront.

Mazatlán has high demand for rentals because both foreigners and locals want to live here. Unlike other resort cities, Mazatlán is mostly a Mexican town. With a population of about 500,000, it offers a real cultural experience along with the benefits of a big city.

Property in Mazatlán is often less than half the price of property in Puerto Vallarta and Playa del Carmen. Among Mexico’s best beach areas, Mazatlán gives you the best value for your money.

Property prices in Mazatlán have been increasing for many years, and I believe this will keep happening. If you want to invest in property in Mexico, now is a great time to get involved in this market.

Crete, Greece

Crete is a beautiful island in the Mediterranean with stunning beaches and a rich history. The land is full of different landscapes, like gorges, hilly areas, olive trees, and mountains with snow on top. The water around Crete is especially clear, with visibility up to 40 meters.

Crete’s natural beauty is one reason it has become more popular since the pandemic. The demand for short-term rentals has increased a lot.

Home prices in Crete have gone up in the past couple of years, but they are still affordable for both locals and visitors. It’s a great place to buy, whether you want to live there or rent out the property.

Thanks to many tourists, rental income is high in this area, and property maintenance costs are usually lower than in North America.

Valencia, Spain

Valencia is Spain’s third-largest city and a popular place to live because of its great weather, affordable living costs, and attractive properties. Located on the Mediterranean coast, the city is only 15 minutes from some of the best beaches in Europe.

Valencia has a rich history with one of the oldest historic centers in Europe. It’s lively, with interesting buildings, trendy bars, restaurants, and unique shops. Getting around is easy with its efficient transport system, including trams, buses, bikes, and electric bikes.

Property prices in Valencia are often about half the cost of similar properties in Barcelona, making it an attractive choice for many people.

There are many types of properties, from apartments in the historic area to new homes in modern developments. If you decide to sell your property, there are plenty of local buyers.

Valencia has become more popular compared to other well-known Spanish cities, and property values have gone up in the past year. However, there are still good deals to be found in this first-world coastal city.

Panama City, Panama

Panama is a popular place for investment because of its strong economy, stable government, and tax-friendly policies. In Panama City, you can enjoy lively nightlife, international cuisine, amazing city and ocean views, and high-quality private healthcare that meets U.S. standards.

As the Hub of the Americas, it attracts international buyers due to its high construction standards. Panama City offers good rental income, both in long-term and short-term rentals for properties licensed for less than 45-day rentals.

With a property investment of just $200,000, you can qualify for residency in Panama.

Medellín, Colombia

Medellín is known as one of the best cities to live in due to its great public transport, friendly people, lots of green areas, and pleasant weather all year round. It’s similar to other big cities but costs much less.

The city is full of energy, with lots of art, music, history, culture, and food. It’s becoming more popular internationally and is now one of the top places to visit in the Americas. Medellín brings in the most tourist money in Colombia, and this is creating opportunities for real estate investors.

Homes in the popular El Poblado neighborhood have been increasing in value, especially those built for short-term rentals. This is a fast-moving market with both local and foreign buyers looking to invest in the best neighborhoods.

You can also get Colombian residency by investing 35 times the monthly minimum wage, which is currently less than $110,000.
