Dr. Akintoye Akindele Interview

In this exclusive interview with Dr. Akintoye Akindele, the CEO of Platform Capital Investment Partners shares a deeply principled leadership philosophy anchored in patient, value-driven capital and long-term institution building. Drawing on a strong academic foundation including training from International School of Management, Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, and the CFA Institute, he explains how disciplined governance, human-centered investing, and strategic mentorship can unlock Africa’s immense potential.

A Leadership Philosophy

We started the interview by asking, “You have led Platform Capital for over six years. What core philosophy drives your leadership as CEO?”

Dr. Akintoye Akindele replied, “At Platform Capital Investment Partners, our philosophy is rooted in deploying patient, value-driven capital to businesses capable of regional and global scale. I believe capital should not only generate financial returns but also create measurable social and economic transformation. Africa holds immense potential, and my role is to connect opportunity with disciplined execution. Leadership, for me, is about long-term thinking, strong governance, and empowering talented operators. We focus on sustainable growth, not short-term wins. By combining financial expertise with strategic mentorship, we help entrepreneurs build institutions that endure and compete globally.”

Academic Rigor Meets Human-Centered Investing

The Worlds Times: How has your academic background shaped your investment approach?

Dr. Akintoye Akindele replied, “My academic journey, including my Doctorate in Business Administration from the International School of Management and executive education at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, sharpened my analytical discipline. Coupled with my CFA designation from the CFA Institute, I approach investments with rigorous financial structuring and risk assessment. However, education also taught me that markets are human ecosystems. Beyond numbers, we evaluate governance quality, leadership resilience, and scalability. My academic training allows me to merge theory with practical execution, ensuring that our capital deployment is both intellectually sound and commercially viable.”

Long-Term Capital Essentiality

The Worlds Times: Platform Capital focuses on patient capital. Why is this model important for Africa’s growth?

Dr. Akintoye Akindele replied, “Africa’s transformation requires long-term commitment. Many global investors seek rapid exits, but infrastructure, industrial growth, and institutional development take time. Patient capital allows businesses to mature sustainably without the pressure of premature liquidity events. At Platform Capital, we support founders beyond funding through governance support, board advisory, and strategic partnerships. This approach strengthens enterprises structurally, positioning them for global competitiveness. By prioritizing longevity over speed, we enable scalable ecosystems. Africa’s future lies in building enduring institutions, and patient capital is a crucial catalyst in that process.”

Global Boardroom Insights, Local Execution

The Worlds Times: You serve on multiple boards across continents. How does this global exposure influence your strategy?

Dr. Akintoye Akindele replied, “Serving across Africa, North America, Latin America, and Asia broadens my perspective on capital flows, regulatory systems, and market behavior. It enables cross-border collaboration and knowledge exchange. My involvement with the Asian-African Chamber of Commerce & Industry further strengthens trade and investment bridges between emerging economies. Global exposure allows me to identify patterns what works in Asia’s industrialization, Latin America’s growth cycles, or North America’s capital markets, and adapt those insights to African contexts. Strategy, therefore, becomes globally informed but locally executed.”

Teaching Value Creation

The Worlds Times: As a professor of Emerging Markets Entrepreneurship, what key lesson do you teach future leaders?

Dr. Akintoye Akindele replied, “At EM Normandie Business School, I emphasize that entrepreneurship in emerging markets requires resilience, innovation, and governance discipline. Capital alone does not build institutions leadership character does. I teach students to think beyond valuation and focus on value creation. Emerging markets present volatility, but within that volatility lies opportunity. Entrepreneurs must build adaptable systems, embrace partnerships, and understand global capital expectations. Ultimately, the next generation must aim to build enterprises that can compete internationally while solving local challenges.”

Mentorship as a Catalyst for Socioeconomic Impact

The Worlds Times: Beyond investment, you are deeply involved in philanthropy and mentoring. Why is this important to you?

Dr. Akintoye Akindele replied, “Socioeconomic transformation is holistic. Investment builds companies, but mentorship builds leaders. Through philanthropy, incubation, and advisory roles, I focus on nurturing intellectual capital. Africa’s demographic advantage is its youth population, and empowering them with knowledge and access creates multiplier effects. Sustainable development cannot rely solely on financial capital; it requires human capital. Mentoring allows me to share lessons from private equity, banking, and governance, ensuring emerging leaders avoid costly mistakes and accelerate their impact.”

Repositioning Africa as a Global Value Creator

Lastly we asked, “What is your long-term vision for Africa’s role in the global economy?”

“I envision Africa transitioning from a resource-dependent narrative to a value-creation powerhouse. The continent must integrate into global supply chains not just as a participant, but as a leader in innovation, finance, and industrialization. Institutions like Platform Capital Investment Partners are positioned to bridge global capital with African opportunity. With disciplined governance, strategic partnerships, and scalable models, Africa can redefine its economic story. My mission is to help build globally respected enterprises that originate from Africa and operate confidently on the world stage.” Dr. Akintoye Akindele concluded
