In less than four weeks, Apple will reveal the iPhone 17 series. The big event is set for Tuesday, September 9, when Apple will hold its keynote to show the new devices. Now, a new date has been added to the launch timeline. The full schedule is listed below.

iPhone 17 Release Date Update

Mark Gurman’s Bloomberg Power On newsletter shared an update that had not been mentioned before. While most of the focus has been on the keynote, the iPhone 17 sale date, and even the date when Apple will announce the keynote, there has been little mention of the iOS 26 release.

This year, iOS 26 has gained a lot of attention. It will come pre-installed on the iPhone 17, but it will also be available for older iPhones going back to the iPhone 11. The question is: when will the general public be able to download it?

Gurman said the software is running very smoothly. He also posted on X that the latest developer beta feels “extremely fast” and suggested that the final version is close to release.

Based on past launches, the release can be predicted more accurately. For example, last year iOS 18 was released on Monday, September 16—one week after the keynote and a few days before the iPhone 16 went on sale on Friday, September 20.

I think this year’s iOS 26 update will come out on a similar schedule as before, most likely around 10 a.m. Pacific on Monday, Sept. 15. There’s a small chance it could be Tuesday, Sept. 16.

I lean toward Monday because Apple usually wants to release new software quickly when excitement is high, and the update already looks ready.

Keynote Announcement: Likely Tuesday, Aug. 26, around 8 a.m. Pacific. This is when Apple sends invites by email to press and special guests. It could also be a day earlier.

Pre-orders Open: Friday, Sept. 12 at 8 a.m. Pacific.
Reviews Published: Likely Tuesday, Sept. 16 or Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 6 a.m. Pacific.
On-sale Date: Friday, Sept. 19 at 7 a.m. local time.
