” The mirrors of ‘Woman, Life, Liberty’ can be heard also via the thick walls of Evin jail.”

Ms Qolian is currently researching regulation behind bars. In her letter she describes exactly how Evin’s “cultural” wing – where she takes her examinations – has been turned into a “torment and investigation” building, and also states she has experienced young detainees being questioned there.

” The examination space is filled with young boys and ladies and also the yells of torturers can be listened to,” she creates.

Ms Qolian defines a scene she observed on 28 December 2022 as she was required to the wing for her examination.

” It’s freezing cool and snowing, near the leave door of the building, a young kid blindfolded as well as using just a slim grey Tees is sat in front of an interrogator.

” He’s trembling and pleading: ‘I promise to God I really did not defeat anybody.’ They want him to admit. As I am passing I yell: ‘DO NOT admit,’ and also ‘Death to you autocrats.'”.

Ms Qolian describes being interrogated by a woman who she hoped may be softer on her than her male interrogators as well as “a minimum of she won’t sexually assault me”.

But she composes that her hopes were brief lived – the women interrogator “kicked the leg of the desk and yelled ‘you communist slut, that did you sleep with?'”.

In December in 2014, Nargess Mohammadi, a women human rights protestor who is serving a 34-year prison sentence, provided an in-depth account of exactly how ladies arrested in current demonstrations are being sexually abused in prison.

” The sounds of abuse continued for hours or maybe a day, perhaps a lot more, I misplaced time,” she composes.

Ms Qolian clarifies that after being launched from the bathroom, sleep-deprived after three days of continuous investigation, she was taken to an area where a camera was established.

” I took the manuscript from her as I was half-conscious and sat in front of the camera and read it,” she creates. Based on those really admissions, she was sentenced to 5 years in prison.

In 2019 Ms Qolian remained in Qarchak prison as well as identified her interrogator while she was enjoying the compelled confessions of another detainee on TV.

Ms Zabihpour sued Ms Qolian, that obtained an additional eight-month sentence due to her complaints.

Ms Qolian ends her letter explaining the demonstrations as a “transformation”.

” Today the noises we listen to on the streets of Marivan, Izeh, Rasht, Sistan and Balouchestan and across Iran is louder than the noises in examination areas, this is the sound of a revolution, real sound of woman, life, freedom.”.
