Even though Sinners is doing well against A Minecraft Movie, the latter is expected to top the box office for the third week in a row.

Sinners, a vampire thriller written and directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan in two roles, opened on Friday in 3,308 theaters across North America. The movie made $4.7 million in Thursday previews.

While Sinners is expected to make $18 million on Friday, which is $1.5 million more than A Minecraft Movie, it’s still projected that Minecraft will win the Easter weekend box office.

A Minecraft Movie, which debuted on April 4, made $163 million in its opening weekend and $78.5 million more last weekend. It’s expected to make $44 million through Sunday from 4,032 theaters.

On the other hand, Sinners is expected to earn $40 million in its opening weekend, placing it in second place.

These numbers are close to the predictions made before the movies were released, which said A Minecraft Movie would earn between $40 million and $45 million. Deadline predicted $47 million for Minecraft, while Variety suggested Sinners could make anywhere from $40 million to $50 million.

Warner Bros. is the big winner at this weekend’s box office because it made both A Minecraft Movie and Sinners.

A Minecraft Movie reached over $300 million in ticket sales on Thursday, earning $6.5 million to bring its total to $303.3 million by Friday. Adding $273.3 million from international sales, the movie made $576.6 million worldwide by the end of Thursday.

‘The King of Kings’ is aiming for the No. 3 spot at the domestic weekend box office

While A Minecraft Movie and Sinners are expected to take the No. 1 and 2 spots, Angel Studios’ The King of Kings might be the weekend’s biggest success. The animated biblical film is predicted to make $17 million from Friday to Easter Sunday, just $2 million less than its opening weekend from April 11-14. If the prediction is correct, The King of Kings will have earned $45 million domestically.

Two other movies that came out last week—20th Century Studio’s The Amateur and A24’s Warfare—are expected to make $8 million and $4 million, respectively, and take the No. 4 and 5 spots at the domestic box office this weekend.
