Shirin Navab is redefining how beauty brands transform ambitious ideas into market-ready products. Through Mind The Beauty, she has built a business that sits at the intersection of brand strategy, product development, quality assurance, and global manufacturing.
Rather than limiting brands to the capabilities of a single factory or laboratory, Mind The Beauty connects each project with the development and manufacturing expertise best suited to its specific requirements. With an extensive international network of specialist partners and a focus on strategic guidance throughout the product journey, the company is helping beauty brands navigate the increasingly complex path from concept to shelf.
From its growing presence in the UAE and wider Gulf region to its expanding focus on the US market, Mind The Beauty is positioning itself as a global partner for ambitious brands seeking innovation, expertise, and a more connected approach to beauty product development.
The Journey Behind Mind The Beauty
We started the interview by asking, “Mind The Beauty sits at the intersection of brand strategy, product development and global manufacturing. What inspired you to build a business that goes beyond traditional manufacturing, and how does this model change the way beauty brands bring products to market?”
Shirin Navab replied, “The honest answer is that I kept seeing the same problem. Brands would come to a manufacturer with an idea, and somewhere between that first conversation and the finished product, something would get lost. The vision would get diluted. The timeline would stretch. And often nobody could quite explain why, because everyone had done their part. They’d just done it in isolation.
That frustrated me. Because the idea is the easy part. Turning it into a product that actually works, that’s compliant, that can be produced consistently at scale, that’s where the real work is. And that work needs to be connected, not handed off from one party to the next.
So we built Mind The Beauty around that connection. We start at the concept stage, we understand what the brand is trying to achieve, and then we figure out the best possible development and manufacturing path to get there. That path looks different for every project. And that’s exactly the point.”
Connecting Brands With Global Beauty Expertise
The World’s Times: “You’ve described Mind The Beauty as a connector between brands and the world’s best development and manufacturing partners. How does that network model work in practice?”
Shirin replied, “This is really the heart of what makes us different.
Most manufacturers work within their own capabilities. What they have in-house is what you get. That works fine if your brief happens to fit their infrastructure. But what if it doesn’t? What if the best lab in the world for your specific formulation is somewhere else entirely?
Our model is built around that question. We have an extensive global network of development labs and manufacturing partners, specialists in specific categories, technologies, textures, and regulatory markets. When a brand comes to us with a brief, our job is to match that brief to the right partner. Not the most convenient one, but the right one.
We also work with our own testing lab to validate quality and compliance throughout the process. That’s our checkpoint, making sure that whatever partner develops or produces the product, the standard is consistent.
What that means for a brand is access. Access to capabilities, technologies and expertise that no single manufacturer could offer under one roof. And we manage that complexity on their behalf, so they don’t have to navigate it alone.
That network is what makes Mind The Beauty genuinely hard to replicate. It took years to build. And it gets stronger with every project we do.”
Working With Brands That Have a Clear Vision
The World’s Times: “What kind of brands do you work best with, and what does a brand need to have in place before working with Mind The Beauty makes sense?”
Shirin replied, “Honestly, the projects that go best are the ones where the brand already knows who it is.
That doesn’t mean they need a finished brief or a technical specification. It means they have a clear sense of their customer, their positioning and what they’re trying to achieve in the market. When that foundation is there, we can move quickly and the product development process has real direction.
The sweet spot for us is established brands, companies that already have an audience, a visual identity, and a product that’s working, and now want to grow their portfolio thoughtfully. They understand their customer. They know what success looks like. Our job is to translate that into the right formulation, the right format, and the right production partner.
That said, we absolutely work with founders too. But the ones who get the most out of working with us are the ones who come with a strong point of view. A real concept, a clear market, and a genuine reason for the product to exist. The technical side we can help build. The ‘why’ has to be theirs.
What we’re not is a catalogue. We don’t work well with briefs that start and end with ‘make me something like this but cheaper.’ That’s not a conversation we’re set up for and frankly, it’s not one that leads anywhere interesting.”
Building Strong Relationships in the UAE and Gulf Region
The World’s Times: “You have developed a strong presence in the UAE and the wider Gulf region. What have you learned from working with brands in this market, and what makes the UAE particularly interesting for a company like Mind The Beauty?”
Shirin replied, “The Gulf region surprised me, in the best possible way. I expected sophistication. The consumer there is very aware, very international. But what I didn’t fully anticipate was how much genuine ambition there is at the brand level.
The brands we work with in the UAE are not looking for a catalogue to choose from. They want something developed around them. Around their customer, their positioning, and their identity. That’s exactly the kind of conversation we love to have.
What we’ve also learned is that brands there are rarely thinking about just one market. The UAE is a hub. A brand launching there is often already thinking about the wider Gulf, about Europe, and about how it scales. That means regulatory knowledge and manufacturing consistency aren’t nice to have, they’re essential from day one.
Our network model is particularly well suited to this. Because a brand in the UAE might need a development partner with specific expertise in a certain texture or active ingredient category, and that partner might be in Italy, Germany or South Korea. We make that connection happen seamlessly.
For us, it’s been about building real relationships over time. Not supplying a product and moving on. The brands we’ve worked with in the region have grown, and we’ve grown with them. That’s the model that makes sense to us.”
Bringing European Beauty Expertise to the US Market
The World’s Times: “Mind The Beauty is now directing greater attention toward the US market. Why is the timing right for this expansion, and what do you believe European expertise can offer American beauty brands?”
Shirin replied, “The US has been on our radar for a while. What’s changed is that the conversation there has shifted. Brands are becoming much more deliberate about who they develop and manufacture with. They want fewer partners, more accountability, someone who understands the whole process rather than just one piece of it.
That’s a conversation we’re very comfortable having.
European beauty has a strong reputation and I think that reputation is earned. The regulatory standards are demanding, the formulation culture is rigorous, and there’s a depth of knowledge that comes from operating in one of the most complex compliance environments in the world. That’s genuinely valuable to a US brand, particularly one in a premium or science-led category.
But what we’re really bringing to the US is the network. Access to the right development and manufacturing partners for each brief, managed by people who understand the full journey from concept to shelf. That’s not something most US brands have easy access to today.
And I want to be clear, we’re not going to the US to impose a European model. We want to understand the market properly. Consumer expectations, claims, packaging requirements, commercial dynamics. All of it needs to be considered carefully. Our approach is to combine what we do well with a genuine understanding of what US brands actually need.
The opportunity is there. And we’re ready for it.”
A Vision for a Globally Connected Beauty Industry
The World’s Times: “Looking ahead, what is your broader vision for Mind The Beauty, and what do you want brands to associate with the company as it expands internationally?”
Shirin replied, “I want Mind The Beauty to be the partner a brand thinks of first when they have an idea for their next great product. That’s the simplest version of the vision.
What that requires is building something that doesn’t scale by becoming generic. A lot of companies grow by standardising everything and there’s logic to that. But we want to grow while keeping the level of personal involvement and strategic thinking that has defined us from the beginning.
The three things I want brands to associate with us are network, expertise and genuine partnership.
Network means access to the best development and manufacturing capabilities in the world, matched specifically to each brief, not limited to what we have in one building. Expertise means knowing how to navigate the full journey, from the first conversation about a concept through to a product that’s ready for the market. Partnership means we take responsibility for the bigger picture. Not just our piece of it.
Our international expansion, the UAE, the US, and beyond, is part of that larger vision. We see opportunities wherever ambitious brands are looking for a partner that combines strategic thinking with a deep understanding of the entire product journey.
The beauty industry will keep moving fast. New ingredients, new technologies, new consumer expectations, and new markets. I don’t want us to simply react to those changes. I want us to be the partner that helps our clients get ahead of them.
That’s what we’re building toward.”
