Aldin Celovic Interview
In this in-depth conversation with Aldin Celovic, a DBA and EMBA professional, regional development specialist, and global thought contributor, we explore a journey that spans from the Western Balkans to the global stage. With extensive experience in EU-funded programs, academic leadership, and sustainability-driven projects, Celovic brings a unique blend of policy insight, education, and innovation.
From being recognized as a top performer in the Danube Region under the BACID program to contributing to global research platforms and Horizon initiatives, his work reflects a consistent focus on capacity building, sustainability, and disruptive thinking. In this interview, Celovic shares how regional expertise can evolve into global impact, how professionals can navigate uncertainty through innovation and education, and discusses tools, methods, and methodologies for dealing with volatility.
Transforming the Danube Region through BACID Leadership
We started the interview by asking, “You were recognized as a champion within the BACID program across the Danube Region. How did this experience shape your leadership and regional impact?”
Aldin Celovic replied: “The BACID program was a turning point in my professional journey. It allowed me to work on high-impact projects funded by the Austrian Development Agency across Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Montenegro.
These projects ranged from investment attraction and industrial zone development to waste management, energy efficiency, and gender equality initiatives. Being selected to present results in Vienna as a top performer confirmed the value of my work and strengthened my regional leadership role.
More importantly, it taught me how to align local development needs with broader European strategies, which is essential for any professional aiming to operate at an international level.”
Understanding the Shift in the Global Education Market
The Worlds Times: The global education landscape is rapidly evolving. How do you see programs like DBA and EMBA shaping future global leaders?
Aldin Celovic replied: “The global education market is becoming more dynamic, interconnected, and focused on practical impact. Programs such as DBA and EMBA are no longer just academic milestones—they are platforms for leadership, innovation, and global networking.
My experience with institutions like Cotrugli Business School, the University of Ljubljana, American University, CXPA USA, the European Commission, and even UN PRME has helped me integrate academic knowledge with real business challenges. Through my roles as an ambassador and board member in alumni organizations, I have seen how these programs create ecosystems that support long-term professional growth, including the benefits of inters-, multi-, cross-, trans-, and intra-disciplinary approaches.
They prepare individuals not just to participate in the global economy, but to actively shape it.”
Navigating Uncertainty Through Horizon Programs and Innovation
The Worlds Times: In an uncertain global environment, how do you use validation mechanisms like Horizon programs while staying ahead of innovation trends?
Aldin Celovic replied:“Validation through European Commission programs such as Horizon is important, but it is only one part of the equation. To stay relevant, you must go beyond validation and contribute to knowledge creation, while at the same time improving executive function.
This is why I worked on research initiatives like Climate Alpha and, based on a book and working paper, collaborated with global institutions such as Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei and platforms like SSRN and RePEc. These efforts allow me to combine practical project experience with academic contribution in pursuit of the best possible outcomes.
Additionally, launching initiatives like Club Climate Alpha helps bridge the gap between research and real-world application. In times of uncertainty, innovation comes from combining institutional recognition with independent thinking.”
Building Global Visibility through Research Platforms
The Worlds Times: How have global academic platforms contributed to your professional development and international recognition?
Aldin Celovic replied: “Platforms like Google Scholar, ORCID, and CORDIS play a crucial role in today’s knowledge economy. They provide visibility, credibility, and access to global networks.
For me, maintaining an active presence on these platforms ensures that my research reaches a wider audience and opens opportunities for collaboration. It also helps in tracking impact and staying connected with the global research community.
These platforms are not just tools for publishing, they are essential for building a global professional identity.”
From the Western Balkans to a Global Player
The Worlds Times: What guidance would you give to professionals aiming to grow from the Western Balkans into global leaders while contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals?
Aldin Celovic replied: “The journey from a regional professional to a global player requires a clear vision, continuous education, and strong alignment with global priorities such as the Sustainable Development Goals.
My path from the Western Balkans to the Danube Region and further into global initiatives was built on combining local expertise with international standards. Working on projects such as renewable energy, biomass, and financial advisory allowed me to contribute both economically and sustainably.
The key is to think globally, act strategically, and continuously invest in your development. With the right mindset and network, professionals from any region can achieve global impact.”
Embracing Disruptive Thinking Through DBA Innovation
Lastly, we asked, “Your concept of Disruptive DBA focuses on innovative and unconventional approaches. What impact do you want this to have on future professionals and EU programs?”
Aldin Celovic concluded: “Disruptive DBA is about challenging traditional thinking and introducing innovative approaches to problem-solving, especially within European Union programs.
By applying creative and sometimes unconventional methods, we can unlock new opportunities in research, funding, and implementation. Horizon provides the perfect environment to create opportunities, demonstrate and enhance innovation and creativity, understand the full picture of current challenges, connect global institutions, and achieve advanced goals while minimizing plagiarism and duplication.
It also allows us to explore current topics in innovative ways, such as big data challenges with CXPA expertise. The goal is to encourage professionals to think beyond established frameworks and become drivers of change.
If we succeed, this approach will not only improve project outcomes but also redefine how innovation is approached within academia and industry.”
