New leaks suggest that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro could bring the bggest visual change to the screen in a long time. The main update focuses on the display design, especially the Dynamic Island. There are also signs that the iPhone 18 range will have brighter screens than ever before.
According to recent reports, Apple plans to change the look of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max displays. While screen sizes have changed over the years, one key feature has remained the same since 2022: the Dynamic Island. That may finally change this year.
The Dynamic Island is the pill-shaped cutout at the top of the screen. Apple first introduced it with the iPhone 14 Pro in September 2022. It replaced the large notch that was used on earlier Face ID iPhones, starting with the iPhone X. Today, Dynamic Island is only found on Apple’s newer Pro models.
Dynamic Island Will Get Smaller
A new report says the Dynamic Island will be noticeably smaller on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Popular leaker Ice Universe shared details on X, saying the width of the cutout will shrink from 20.76 mm to 13.49 mm. That is a reduction of about 35%.
While this change does not remove the Dynamic Island completely, it will be easy to see the difference. The smaller cutout could make the screen look cleaner and more modern. Some users may instantly notice and recognize the new design.
This size reduction may be possible because Apple could hide some Face ID parts under the screen. One such part is the flood illuminator, which helps Face ID work properly. If it moves under the display, Apple would no longer need as much visible space at the top.
Which iPhones Will Get the New Design?
Leaks suggest that the smaller Dynamic Island will only appear on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The regular iPhone 18 is expected to miss out on this upgrade. This follows Apple’s usual pattern, since standard iPhones often get Pro features later.
There is some debate about the iPhone Air 2. Some reports say it may not get the new design, but others disagree. Since the iPhone Air 2 is expected to be a premium model and may launch later, it could still receive the updated display.
Brighter Displays Coming to iPhone 18
Another leak points to major improvements in screen brightness. A well-known leaker called Instant Digital said a Chinese display supplier, BOE, may not be able to produce panels for the iPhone 18 because Apple’s brightness standards are extremely high.
This suggests that the iPhone 18 will have a brighter screen than the iPhone 17. The iPhone 17 already offers strong brightness levels, with 1,000 nits typical brightness and up to 3,000 nits outdoors. The iPhone 18 is expected to go even further.
Since the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro have the same brightness, it is likely that the iPhone 18 Pro will also receive a brightness boost. Apple usually makes sure Pro models do not fall behind standard versions in display quality.
iPhone 18 Pro Max Display and Performance Upgrades
Another report claims the iPhone 18 Pro Max will use Samsung’s new LTPO Plus display technology. This tech offers brighter visuals while using less power, which helps improve battery life.
The report also mentions the A20 Pro chip, expected to use advanced 2-nanometer technology. This would make the phone faster and more energy-efficient. Apple may also switch to its own C-Series modem, replacing Qualcomm, for smoother performance.
Some reports even suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro Max may include under-display Face ID. While not all Face ID parts can be hidden yet, Apple appears to be moving step by step toward that goal.
More leaks are expected in the coming months, and this story will likely continue to evolve as Apple’s plans become clearer.
