Rabab Khodary: I am a passionate, self-motived and a scientific mindset who strive to be a lifelong learner. I graduated with BSc in Medical technology on year 2006 from King AbdulAziz University in Saudi Arabia & gained MSc degree in Cell & Molecular Biology from San Francisco State University in United States of America on year 2012. During my educational life, I had internship in Molelcular Genetics, Cytogenetics and Blood bank. After the year of internship, I became passionate about the field of Genetics specifically. I worked as a scientific researcher in California and in Saudi Arabia in the field of Genetics and Cell & Molecular Biology.

I joined Batterjee Medical College on year 2013, where I was the Head of Clinical Skills Center managing over 300 students. Then, I challenged myself to join big multi-national companies. I joined GlaxoSmithKline(GSK) on year 2015 as a management trainee in a program called Future leaders, in which I had the opportunity to have rotations in Market access, Marketing and Sales functions . My passion led me to the function of Market access and Pricing. During year 2017, I worked as Associate Market access manager handling total GSK  innovative products and some established products access include: Respiratory, Urology, Anti-infective, rare diseases, HIV, Vaccines for total governmental sector across Saudi Arabia.

Year 2021, I joined Janssen, Pharmaceutical companies of Johnson & Johnson as Health Economics & Market access Manager in Hemato-oncology therapy area. During my role in both companies, I was a key orchestrator for all operational process to achieve patients access to innovative products and played a crucial role in Market access & pricing strategies to optimize the best solution for the business.

Rabab Khodary: It is a diversified career pathway that was full of obstacles, challenges that highly refined my personality, capabilities and mindset through :

  1. Painstaking work day & night in the field of market access, pricing and Health economics.
  2. Intensive self-development knowledge & practice.
  3. Very high resilience and agility.
  4. Very high discipline and determination.

Rabab Khodary:  My Key strategies as below:

  1. I set clear short & long-term life goals.
  2. I highly commit with high discipline when I start a task or project.
  3. I begin with the end of mind. I envisage a crystal-clear future.
  4. I build a willpower muscle to keep moving toward my sense of purpose.
  5. I am a highly realistic optimistic person who thinks about overcoming difficulties by precisely well-planned plan.

The Worlds Times: What are the key values which helped you to overcome the challenges in your path? Tell us something about your memorable incident in your professional journey?

I am highly self-aware about my abilities and I am a mix of hard & smart worker who believes nothing is impossible in life.

During my career journey in the field of Market access years ago, I faced many challenges internally and externally. Market access was emergent function years ago in most of companies in Saudi arabia. In addition, it is a very dynamic and complex department as we are the orchestrators between cross-functional teams in any organization. In my second year as a Market access associate manager; there were big challenges in some products access due to the high competition. I was highly challenged that I cannot overcome the situation and achieve the access on a timely manner. I solved the situation calmly, strategically, and operationally and achieved high success.

The Worlds Times: How do you see yourself changing in two years, and how do you see yourself creating that change?

Rabab Khodary:  I am a work in progress, but I see myself changing to a great leader and a person who will bring breakthrough therapies to the patients in needs in Saudi Arabia.

I will create the change by example. Being the resonating inspiring voice in every educational and professional forum in the country to promote scientific knowledge and medical advancement.

Once of my key attributes: I inject art into the science of everything I communicate, discuss, or negotiate. It is not about the quantity of communicating, it is about the quality of information shared.

Motivation

The Worlds Times: Market access and Pricing is one of the complex & dynamic functions in pharma companies, how do you keep yourself motivated? How do you build your resilience and agility?

Rabab Khodary: I prioritize my mental & physical wellbeing. It is the cornerstone of high performance in workplace and source of happiness in life. Resilience and agility can be built through brain-body connection, motivation, creativity, and other factors. I achieve this by practicing my hobbies including performing arts, martial arts, meditation and general exercising. In addition, I am a practitioner for the Art of Emotional intelligence (EQ) and there is a clear connection between EQ, resilience and agility.

The Worlds Times: Aside from your current role in Market access function, you drive the inclusion and diversity agenda in the community. Can you elaborate more?

Rabab Khodary: I am passionate about fostering the power of diversity and its impact to organizational effectiveness. Empowering women at every organization I work with (GSK & Janssen) aiming to embrace women’s full potential in leadership. Saudi Arabia currently is undergoing through rapid change when it comes to Diversity and inclusion agenda. Currently, I am the Co-founder for the Saudi Women and Allies Network (SWAN). A network that was founded by Dr. Bashayer Al Shehri, a consultant Oncology/ Hematology Clinical Pharmacist. The network aims to foster the gender diversity through awareness meetings and workshops that tackles different topics and stimulates dynamic discussions to share rich knowledge and experiences aiming to develop men and women at professional level.
